Here and Now

Last Thursday, 10 August 2006, the Greens Senator Kerry Nettle moved a motion urging the
government to support an immediate ceasefire in Israel and Lebanon. I present the text below:

THE MOTION:

The Australian Senate

(a) notes that the details of any ceasefire in the Middle East will
be controversial but given the ongoing tragic loss of life any immediate ceasefire is better than no ceasefire
And
(b) calls on the Australian government to support an immediate ceasefire

The motion was not supported by the government or Labor party.

Of course, I only found out about it through the Greens news list. Thought I'd share.

It's clear that little johnie would never support a position that Dubya doesn't hold; but it's more puzzling that Labour did not take up the idea.

Perhaps because they didn't think of it first?
